Diving Watches from Citizen, Seiko, Invicta, and other brands

Geoff Van Dyke, writing in the December 2006/January 2007 issue of Best Life magazine ("Fine, Finer, Finest", page 60), pointed out that dive watches - with their combination of functionality and reliability - have long been important to the U.S. military, including Navy SEAL teams. But now they're popular with many average citizens. To preserve them for long-lasting use, Best Life said be sure to rinse your watch after it's been in saltwater, and occasionally you should clean the watch externally with liquid soap. The magazine also recommended bringing it to a professional watch restorer who can examine and clean its internal parts.
        Michael Strauss and Igor Aksenov wrote in their 2004 book Diving Science on page 178 that "Bezels are a very useful, user-friendly feature for timing diving activities. The more expensive watches have integrated depth gauges with adjustable time and depth limit alarms. Backlighting... is another desirable feature, especially for diving at night or where the illumination is poor."
        Jeppesen's Advanced Sport Diver Manual by Richard Clinchy and Glen Egstrom (1993) tells us on page 35: "If your diving watch is pressure-proof well beyond whatever depth you intend to dive, it should cause you no problems. The better quality dive watches have such features as mineral crystals, a higher-quality inner mechanism, and significantly greater durability than other watches. They can withstand more abuse and... have increased accuracy."
